The United Kingdom is made up of the countries of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. If you want to go back in time and feel like you are in a fairy tale or a harry potter film then the UK is the place for you. It is easy to see why so many myths and legends were born here. It is one of the world’s most beautiful places you must visit. So here are the top 15 best places in the UK.

1 London


The first location is the favorite and you will want to visit possibly the most iconic city in the world London. Whenever you think about England London comes first in our mind. I have to say it is my favorite city in the world. London attracts the people to watch from the double-decker buses to the energy of Piccadilly circus makes the city feel so alive.

There are so many places to see. You can check out the iconic Big Bend and walk across the ridge to see the Palace of Westminster. There is a tower bridge which is possibly the most famous bridge in all of London. You can spot the Stoic Guards at Buckingham Palace or take a ride on the London eye. If you haven’t already been to London I would highly recommend visiting when you can it’s hard to beat the London atmosphere. There is no city like London in the world.


2 Wales

Another really cool spot to visit in the UK is Wales. This place is located in the southwest part of Great Britain. It is famous for its mountainous national parks, picturesque coastline, and the distinct Welsh language.

One of the most picturesque places in Wales is the Snowdonia National Park. It is a region in northwest Wales that is known for its mountains and lakes. The highest peak in Wales is Snowdon Mountain. It is located in the park with an elevation of 1085 meters. You can hike up there or you can take the Snowdon Mountain Railway to the top. If you are lucky, you might be able to see Ireland across the sea.


3 Roman-era Bath


This is one of the UK’s smaller cities. Bath quite makes up for its diminutive size with a large number of things to see and do. this can be a gorgeous city that has been luring visitors to its healing waters for over 2,000 years.

There are a number of nearby spas that you can go to. But the most notably the best Thermae Bath Spa offers guests the chance to enjoy the city’s famous waters. This is also famous for its lovely Georgian architecture. The best examples are often seen along the glorious, arched Royal Crescent, with its palatial townhomes. Royal Crescent, is one of them. Today this is a museum that offers an appealing peek into life during Georgian times.


4 Old Harry’s Rocks

If you are on the Jurassic Coast then this is also the best place to visit in the UK. This is one of the best spots on the Jurassic Coast. When you visit this place, you will be baffled by the scenery there the old hairy rocks.

These are the sea stacks that are made completely out of chalk that mark the end of the Jurassic Coast. In World War 2 the stacks were used as target practice for pilots. Personally, I just love the combination of the green meadows with the white cliffs and the blue ocean. It is just hard to beat that scenery.


5 Inverness


This is the best city in the UK. Inverness has numerous excellent attractions, including the Castle, the Museum and Art Gallery, and the late 19th-century St. Andrew’s Cathedral.

If you are a history lover then you should also check the Culloden Battlefield and Visitors Centre. It was in Culloden in 1746 that English and Scots fought their last battle and where the fate of Scotland as a British dominion was determined.

Additionally of interest are the gravestones of warriors from the Scottish clans. There’s the six-meter-high Memorial Cairn erected in 1881 to commemorate the battle.


6 Jurassic Coast

As the name of this place, you might think you can find dinosaurs. But you won’t find any dinosaurs here you might find some fossils on the beach. the Jurassic Coast is England’s only natural world heritage site. It becomes popular with its white cliffs and picturesque beaches that are full of fossils formed over 65 million years ago.

One of the most famous spots on the Jurassic coast is Dirty Door. It is a limestone arch that goes straight into the ocean. There is a great beach there and this is a better place to spend during the hot summers.


7 Ancient Stonehenge


This is another beautiful place to visit in the UK. Stonehenge is just a two-hour drive from London. This place is located in Wiltshire England. Stonehenge lies one of the most famous man-made rock structures in the world. This is the best place and very popular place in the UK.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding Stonehenge like what was its purpose and how was it made. Excavators believe it was constructed back between 3000 to 2000BC. This place consists of a ring of rocks each being around 4 meters high and weighing nearly 50,000 pounds each.

It is unclear what the main purpose of Stonehenge was. Some archaeologists are believed that it was used as an astronomical observatory or religious site. This place sure makes you stop and think how people thousands of years ago were able to construct this.


8 Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is located in the Irish sea right between England and Ireland. It lies a rugged island known for its rural landscapes and medieval castles. Technically it is not part of the United Kingdom. It has the status of crown dependency and the UK is responsible for its defense and external relations.

The Isle of Man has had an interesting history. Humans have lived on it since 6,500BC and in the 19th century, it was ruled by Norway. But in 1266 the island became part of Scotland and now it is a self-governing isle.

One of the best places to visit on the island man is Peel castle. This castle was constructed by Vikings in the 11th-century street and just sits right on the ocean.


9 Isle of Skye

This is probably most favorite place in the UK. One of the most magnificent places in the Isle of Skye is the Old Man of Storr. Old Man of Storr is one of the best rock formations. It is around a four-kilometer hike to reach there. You walk through some conservation gates and you will reach the famous rock pinnacles. You must visit this place to see the sunrise and sunset and both occasions are breathtaking. This is such a magical place.

The legend of the old man store is supposedly a giant who lived there a long time ago and when he was buried his thumb was left sticking out of the ground. When you go there it is easy to see why it’s one of the world’s most iconic rock formations. I suggest everyone see this place at least once in their life.


10 Mealt falls

Just a few minutes away from the old man store there is a wonderful waterfall called Mealt falls that flows down at the ocean. There is a nice viewpoint where you can look at the waterfall the surrounding sea cliffs in the area are also stunning.

Another one of the most famous is kilt rock which is right by Mealt falls. This is just such a cool place to visit in the UK. There are many waterfalls that fall straight into the ocean.

If you are looking to find some fairies you may want to look at the fairy pools. There are the most fascinating and picturesque blue pools that lie at the base of the black colons.

If you want to do a beautiful hike, I would recommend visiting the Quiraing. It is one of the most beautiful areas in the Isle of Skye. You feel like you are walking on a giant golf course.


11 Northern Ireland

Ireland is full of just beautiful scenery, substantial coastal cliffs, and numerous castles. In 1921 Ireland was split into northern and southern Ireland as a result of the Ireland act of 1920. While southern Ireland became a free Irish state and Northern Ireland remained within the United Kingdom. Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. Belfast is also the birthplace of the titanic ship.

One of the most iconic places in Northern Ireland is the dark hedges. The road was lined with beech trees planted in the 18th century. It was used as a failing location for the game of thrones.

On the northern coast, you can check out the Carrick already rope bridge or see the basalt columns at the giant’s causeway. There is just so much history and beauty in Ireland it makes you want to go there and explore.

14 Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a medieval old town with intricate neoclassical buildings cobblestone streets and beautiful gardens. The iconic Edinburgh castle overlooks the city and is home to Scotland’s crown jewels.

If you are still in Edinburgh, then don’t miss to visit Arthur’s seat. Arthur’s Seat is located in holy rod park and it is a short walk from Edinburgh center. Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano with an elevation of 823 feet.


15 Medieval York

This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in northern England. The medieval city of York, long the ministerial capital of the Church of England. York Minster is the country’s largest medieval church. There are also numerous museums which you can visit. The most popular is the National Railway Museum. This museum has a huge collection include many fine old steam engines dating as far back as 1820, plus a unique collection of Royal Trains. This is must visit place in the UK.
